I've been reading Facebook posts and reviews about this latest Malay movie that I succumb into watching it. I'm not a Malay movie fan except for the late Yasmin Ahmad's because I get agitated by the plot and acting.
Maya Karin is an excellent actress but I'm having doubts on our local star turned Malaysian sensation, Aaron Aziz. Ombak Rindu is a love triangle story which focused on forced and secret marriages.
Izah(Maya) is a religious kampung girl who lives with her aunt and uncle in a kampung after both her parents passed away. Due to financial constrain, her uncle sold her off as a prostitute in Kuala Lumpur where she was drugged and rape. Harris(Aaron) bought her off the pimp after knowing that she was forced into prostitution.
Being a playboy, he kept Izah in his holiday cottage where he'll return for services. Being pious, Izah requested they wed so she will willingly provide rather than being forced. They both wed secretly and Harris grew to love her as a wife.
However, Harris was to wed his childhood sweetheart which he decides to break the ties but Mila loves him dearly and forced to be wed even though she knows that Harris is having an affair. The loves triangle is truly intense.
It would seem like typical love story but the aspect of faith, love and devotion compels the beauty of the show. Love is a sacrifice but it is beautiful to be held closely. All the while, people foretold that I love a simple "Yes Dear" wife and I blatantly disagree. After watching Ombak Rindu, I would so love someone like Izah minus the torment.
