The Three Stooges

I have no clue to why I bothered to watch this show. I'm not a major fan of slapstick comedy. A remake of the classics series to a movie, I just have no other shows to catch and I had to sit through 3 times to complete.

Yup! 3 times to complete but the show is divided into 3 acts or episodes, so it was splendid. I dreaded even continuing to complete the whole show.

The Three Stooges remake isn't that bad actually. If you're not into slapstick, this show isn't for you. However, there other great actors in the movie such as Jennifer Hudson, Jane Lynch and Sofia Vergara. Each ladies are spectacular especially Sofia for acting as a fool.

The 3 Stooges are quite rough on the edges. Nothing can be compared to the original trio but these 3 guys managed to do it fine. Most notable is Will Sasso as Curly. Quite spot on but rough on the features.

In all, I was agitated throughout the show. I wished it to end but I still pursued to complete the show just for the sake of completing. Not recommending it even when people say it's funny.

Mirror Mirror

There have been a tad too many Snow White for 2012. Firstly there was the completed TV series of Once Upon A Time which circles mostly around Snow, and then later in the Summer was Kristen Steward's Snow White and the Huntsman. In between there was Mirror Mirror which I missed in the theaters.

With an Indian director in helm, I thought the movie would be very much like a Bollywood movie but I was wrong. Sure, the costumes were stunning, and apparently the story was captivating too.

It's not your usual Grimm fairy tale and it's surely not your typical Snow White either. There's still the evil queen (nicely played by Julia Roberts), the magical mirror which is kinda cool, the charming prince (less heroic) and of course the 7 dwarves. The story however is slightly different than the usual.

Something caught my eyes from Snow White. Yes, she's the fairest of them all but that bushy eyebrows kept me staring. Could it be a trademark? I don't know but it's truly eye gazing too be missed.

Remember I mentioned that it's not too Bollywood type of movie, Tarsem Singh proved me right at the very ending. His directing is stunning with the costume and set, and not to forget some visual aspect of the show. But the last number was unnecessary. Like really...

Dr. Seuss's The Lorax

I didn't grow up with much books surrounding me. I was more privileged to be surrounded by toys instead and not sure whether it's a good thing then. Well, those toys are now priceless in modern technological society.

Anyway, back to the books. No books then so I don't really know much of Dr. Seuss. I did skimmed through the picture books but still don't get the story until decades later when his books became motion pictures. Then I know more of Dr. Seuss.Think of it as Tim Burton's less the goth and more on the merrier side.

I've enjoyed The Grinch but not the animation of Horton Hears a Who. Apparently, The Lorax is no different . I didn't really enjoy the show.

Maybe, if I read the book when I was young, I could've actually enjoy the show. That's a maybe which I didn't.

Ok, every great children book has a meaning to its story. The Lorax is basically about saving the trees, breaking promises and the cause of greed.

So yah, that's it. It'll be great for the kids. But for god sake, get your kids to read books and do things with physical object rather than being on technological advances. Kids, get a 'PROPER' life! Not within a screen.

The Dark Knight Rises

After a great reboot of the Dark Knight in Batman Begins, a spectacular villainous performance in The Dark Knight, the legend ends here for Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale's Batman series. I wonder how Christopher Nolan plans to end the Dark Knight series.

The city is in peace after the death of Harvey "Two-Face" Dent and Batman became a wanted vigilante. Gotham managed to be in peace and Batman to a leave of absence for 8 years. But things went awry when Bane disrupted the stock market.

This time Bane is not all brute as who all would perceived in the cartoons. Bane is a smart sonavab*tch. He managed the organized crime and even managed to defeat Batman during his encounter. Like the comics, Bane broke Batman's spine, leaving Batman crippled for months while he terrorized Gotham. Gotham became like the game of Batman: Arkham City where villains runs the city.

On top of that, there's Anne Hathaway as Catwoman!!! Less latex than Michelle Pheiffer, Anne Hathaway still does a good Catwoman (Definitely better than Halle Berry). The chemistry between Batman and Catwoman is great, just like the comics.

Last addition is Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a police officer John Blake who identified Bruce Wayne as Batman. His intellengence and wits reminds me of someone in the original comic series.

Overall, the Dark Knight Rises is great conclusion to Chrisopher Nolan and Christian Bale Batman. No wonder Christian Bale would not continue on if Robin's involved. Now go figure.

Redline

It's Friday night and my anticipated movie only starts at midnight. I had plenty of time and managed to squeeze in another movie. I've watched Redline trailer on iTunes and got captivated by the stunning visual of the show.

Originally released by the Japanese in 2009, Redline was re-released in English in 2010. The show is about a racing competition in a distant future where racer from different walks of life (humans, humanoid, aliens, robot etc) competes in different races.

The protaganist of the show is human Sweet JP who drive a normal Earthly vehichle while others races in huge vehicle similar to those of Star Wars podrace. Unlike the others, JP does not condone weaponaries for the race but like every car, it has it's nitros configurations.

The races are visually stunning especially the effect of nitros. Japanese anime are way beyond the world and are quite entertaining. It's a great anime but keep the children out. The show packs visuals and language not to be comprehend by the kids.

The Iron Lady

Yet another biography movie of  a historical figure for me this year. This time, its UK longest running female Prime Minister Magaret Thatcher portrayed by the ever talented Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady.

It's a bit ironic to have an American to portray a Britain leading role but Meryl Streep is the best I've seen. Her acting and dictation are just remarkable, acting 3 different stages of Lady's Thatcher's life.

The show revolved around her entry to the House of Common as the only lady member. Her strength and determination won the peoples heart and decided to run for leader.

Behind every great leader would be their other half, Dennis Thatcher played by Jim Broadbent. I love him in his role in Moulin Rouge and he's character has been a quirky one. Mr Thatcher supported his wife to rise of power and also takes care of her while she take care of the nation.

As the story revolved around Lady Thatcher in old age, dementia ruins her. Not knowing the present and past, it severed her relations with her children and even hallucinate the dead Dennis.

It is a strong movie portraying a steadfast leader with a great actress but political can either be boring or remarkable.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Rebooted and amazing. Spider-Man got the boot as well after Batman but does it fairs the same. I've had my mixed feelings at first and I shall confirmed that I still have mixed feelings.

It states the untold tales of Spider-Man and a follows closely to the comics. That's for sure. For once, Spider-Man's webbings were artificial and his first love interest is Gwen Stacy. What was not told in comics (or not that I've known) were the history of his parents. Never did I knew until now which explains the remarkable intelligence of Peter Parker.

Some of the storyline were off-pitched like the death of Uncle Ben and another father figure in the movie. And could The Amazing Spider-Man outdo the famous inverted kiss of the first movie? Let just say it didn't but they had a lot of it.

So we had the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Sandman and Green Goblin Jr in the Sam Raimi's rendition but don't expect a reboot of the villain. A new villain is introduced, the Lizard. Not a strong suit of villain that made the fights a bore and he looks more like the Killer Croc from Batman.

Andrew Garfield as Peter/Spider-Man is refreshing, a portrait of modern nerd and his emotions sets well. Spidy pun wasn't much but catchy for some. I still feel Tobey Macguire does a great Peter until the overacting of Spider-Man 3. Never expected that Emma Stone did great as Gwen Stacy unlike bimbotic Bryce Dallas Howard. Emma had more character but less rebellious.

Action and cinematography is better in the reboot. It feels real this time especially the webbing aspect. As an avid comic reader especially of Marvel's, The Amazing Spider-Man does better justice to the comic world but just lack the actors to play it proper.

The Awakening

Right, another brilliant idea to watch a freaky English horror movie in the night alone. I have no idea what compels me to do it after incidences while I was young. Maybe it's just the thrill that I'm missing.

I've caught the Awakening trailer and thought it could be as great as The Woman in Black. Some what similar and spooky, I squinted a few.

The story revolves around Florence, an author on supernatural hoaxes. She was asked to investigate the death of a boy in a boarding school after claiming that he kept seeing a ghostly boy. Evidents presented to her of pictures of the ghostly boy but she refuses the first offer and finally accepted the investigation.

The boarding school was not as spooky as the house featured in the Woman in Black. It's huge and well occupied by the students but it got scary during the night and scarier while the students went home for the holiday. There's nothing that goes bump in the night but mostly jingles by the apparatus that Florence set up around the most area the ghost was sighted. It really was scary but just an occassional scare (You'll squint thinking what will come up).

To every supernatural mystery, there'll be a conclusion. It's not that dramatic but the ending kept you pondering but I think it's obvious.
