John Carter

After watching the trailer of John Carter, I was wondering whether it will in par with George Lucas Star Wars. So far I have not find any sci-fi that out best Lucas's spectacular creation.

I have to admit thought that John Carter is quite admirable. It's based on a true human form altered with strength and agility of Mars gravity. That was somewhat believable. The natives of Mars or Barsoom does not look like those typical martians that olden movies portrays. However there where 2 types of aliens on Barsoom, the Tharks (Green humanoid with 4 hands) and the Red Martians (human like being with red tattoos).

I read the John Carter's comics from Marvel and wasn't too compelled by the story. But after watching the movie, the plot caught me a bit. The starting was very slow and boring but as the show progresses, it was quite good. Yup, only good. I still can't shake Star Wars out of my system.

Disney's effects are truly stunning. The aliens and warships are done nicely and the action sequence which wasn't much was okay. I still can't get Star Wars out of my head to this point. John Carter has elements of Star Wars to Dune and to some other sci-fi movies that I can't recalled the name.

Dark Shadows

Yet another film by Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. Would one ever get tired of them. Apparently, I'm still drawn to the gothic characters and quirky scenes.

Dark Shadows is about a family cursed by a jealous witch Angelique (the sultry Eva Green) who has been yearning for love from Barnabas Collins. Unable to get his affections, she cursed him into a vampire and buried him alive (errmmm... undead).

After 200 years (194 corrected Angelique), Barnabas got free and returns to Collinswood. He met his distance cousin and learnt the fate of the Collins family name. With his secret stash of valuables, Barnabas agrees to bring back the Collins name.

Definitely a great cast and a bit of humor here and there. I'm not sure whether Tim Burton is mellowing or just loosing his touch. His scenes are less quirky and story is a tad slow but people still hate to love his shows.

Breaking Wind

I just loves spoof but I may not like them all. I can tolerate most shows after watching the original and laugh along with cockiness.

Breaking Wind is a spoof of the Twilight saga from Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. Apparently, Breaking Wind is tolerable and made great fun of the Twilight Saga. If your're a die hard fan, I recommend you to stay away. Do look out for the end credit featuring fanatical Twilight fans and I do mean FANATICAL.

Immortals

Based on Greek mythology and production from the that brought 300 to fame, Immortals is a great archaic movie based on Theseus life.

Very similar to 300, the movie sets in a gloomy atmosphere with tons of great actions between human, gods and titans. The slow motion sequence of the god battles with the titans are remarkably stunning, pacing the fast movements of the gods.

Mickey Rourke does make a good villain with his real life archaic figure. He sets well for villain/hero of the era. Our hero Theseus (Henry Cavill) is lacking the heroism aura. Hope he won't f**k up Superman.

There are great characterization of the Minotaur which is actually human. What I would love to know is, statues and documentations of mythologies shows the people naked in all sorts of event be it battles or major events. Why would film not produced in such, nakedness throughout the who mythology event as per statues and paintings. That would be a true essence of a mythology.

21 Jump Street

To those whose high school life didn't end as well, would you rewind time to do it differently? Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum got to do it in 21 Jump Street.

Cop buddies Schimdt and Jenko were put to 21 Jump Street division, a team of young-looking cops to infiltrate a high school drug bust. With their identities switched pert her records, it adds a funny twist to the buddies.

A typical undercover action comedy, with a additional great plot and twist, and even great cameos. With Jonah Hill who uglily slimmed down, expect crude humor which was enjoyable.

Justice League: Doom

A 2012 DC animated featured movie of the Justice League league which has no ties to the previous. Justice League: Doom follows loosely to Tower of Babel.

Mirror Master, hired by Vandal Savage hijacked the BatComputer on intels of the JLA members that Batman archived in times of need should members be compromised. Using the intel, Savage recruited the individual enemies of the league and created the Legion of Doom consisting Bane, Star Sapphire, Cheetah, Ma'alefa'ak, Mirror Master and Metallo.

Each JLA members were taken down as recorded by Batman to their Doom. With an additional help from Cyborg, the struggled to fight their perilous end to save the day.

I truly loved Batman's character and intuition (he is my all time favorite hero). I didn't read Mark Waid's Tower of Babel so watching the show was sufficient. Sadly, the animation is loose adaption to the comic but great plot nonetheless.

Marvel's The Avengers

After all the sneak peeks at the end credits of Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and Captain America movies, Marvel finally assembled the greatest heroes together to form the mighty Avengers.

It may not be the original ensemble of Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man and Wasp but the current team are still as great. Sure of course, Captain America joins the team but substitute Ant-Man and Wasp to Hawkeye and Black Widow, the team is mightier.

With Joss Whedon on screenplay and directing, you can expect the greatest story ever told, slightly out of context from the comic world but great nonetheless. Joss, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer did a tremendously great job. With such a huge budget, he managed to pull it off without overdoing it unlike big names such as James Cameron who totally destroyed a franchise. Oh, do expect witty humor too, thanks to Joss.

Like most Marvel movies, do stay for the end credits extras. Spoiler Alert but I doubt people will know, I foresee an appearance of the Infinity Gauntlet. Now go figure.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

Ever since I loved comics way back in 1996, I try not to miss any of it's movie creations since especially those of Marvel Comics. OK, I did missed Man-Thing but who knows Man-Thing.

The first Ghost Rider movie was just OK, probably due to Nicholas Cage's mundane characterization (all his movies have the same type of characterization). The plot and graphics were OK. I didn't expect Marvel to agree on a sequel with Nicholas Cage again.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is very unlike it's first movie. The producers are adding in elements of comics into the movie but it ended up comical and eccentric. It's weird for a ghoulish movie. Video shots are also has weird angling.

The plot for this is also too simple. It's not a major event related in the comic world or maybe I'm not an avid fan of Ghost Rider. Yeah, I think that's it, not a fan.
