The Rum Diary

My last inbound flight entertainment which I too had it in my iPad video library. Sadly, I fell asleep from exhaustion midway. So I continued where I left off at home

I can't recall watching Johnny Depp playing in a more earthly character unlike his usual eccentric characters such as Jack Sparrow and his Tim-Burton characterization. Oh wait! There was The Tourist alongside Angelina Jolie where he played a normal character.

In the Rum Diary, Depp still portray a bit of eccentricity due to alcohol intoxication. It was a bit odd watching him that way, too normal. The story of The Rum Diary was somewhat slow but captivating. Though I was quite disappointed at how it ended, just like that. Simple and prompt with written events of the future. Doubt there will be a sequel.

Underworld - Awakening

My first inbound inflight movie, I actually have most of the shows on my iPad but I was just too troublesome to place it. Since there's the convenience of inflight entertainment, just make full use of it.

After 2 series and a prequel, Underworld returns for the third sequel with Kate Beckinsale as Selene. The show continues after the second with the human society knowing the existence of vampires and lycans. They waged to cleanse the non-human from the world. In attempt to escape the madness, both Selene and Michael tried to escape but got separated in a blast.

Selene woke up 12 years later from cyrogenic slumber to escape from captivity. She was separated from Michael and was searching for him through an unknown telepathic link but only to be rekindled with a new hybrid whom the captors are after.

We're able to figure out the plot by now - heroine ran away with new hybrid, new hybrid got caught while heroine got injured, heroine goes after the new hybrid and kills anyone who stops her with great action sequence. They managed to get back but learned of another plot and decides to stop it. Typical but still entertaining by the hotness of Kate Beckinsale in action. But be warned that this may not be the end of Underworld.

Already Famous

My second outbound in-flight movie. Heard good review of the show so I just have to watch it and I do love Michelle Chong. The multi-talented has did it again. Not only is she able to portray different character, she's now able to direct and write them too. I followed her growth through MTV It's My Life and happy to what she became.

Already Famous is written, directed and acted by Michelle Chong. She plays a Malaysian girl who wishes to be a TV star in Singapore like many Malaysian-born artistes. The road to to stardom isn't easy and she struggles to be on TV rather selling them. she met many people (great characters and friends of her) to achieve her dreams.

The show is quite funny and yet heartfelt. A typical story for the road to stardom but I'll applaud Michelle Chong for her multiple appointments to the show.

Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol

It has been a hectic April and I did not managed time for either home or cinema movies but I managed to catch up on them during my flight to Seoul. Thanks to SQ, I got to watch some the shows that I've been meaning to watch. Here goes the first outbound in-flight movie.

For the forth timing running and the third produced by Tom Cruise himself, TC reprises his role as Ethan Hunt in M:I Ghost Protocol and he's not getting for it still. Trying to be the next James Bond without changing the actor. Good one.

Ghost Protocol does not boast great artistes as of M:I3 but the first-time action director Brad Bird did well. Simon Pegg returns as the comical Benji Dunn who is now a technical field agent. Great humor but a bit too little emphasis on him. The villain however is not as great too as M:I3. However, the beauty of Burj Khalifa astound the screen and with yet another free climbing by agent Hunt. So the scenery for M:I GP did well.

There are many great action sequences in M:I4 but storyline is a bit of a lack.

I Wish

I managed a spare time before my Korea trip. I should be inspired and eager for Korea but I missed the life in Japan and I gotten to watch I Wish.

I Wish is a story of 2 brothers, Goichi and Ryu separated by their parents divorce. They stay connected by contacting each other regularly. With the new bullet train starting operation, rumors has it that whoever witness the meeting of 2 passing bullet train, their wish will come true.

Goichi plans and set out an expedition to the location where the bullet train will meet to wish for his family to be together again. Knowing of his brothers attempt, Ryu decided to follow and meet at the said location.

I Wish is a heartwarming family movie about brotherhood and friendship. It may be simple but I still love it because it's simply Japan.I do missed my time out in the rural Japan.

Arthur Christmas

Catching up with the remaining 2011 movies whenever I can. Managed to find time to watch a movie but I don't have much of a choice and ended watching Arthur Christmas when it's already spring.

The teaser was quite interesting and the trailer released soon after was quite entertaining however after watching the show, it was not. Probably due to winter has ended and I'm not in the Christmas spirit.

It's a story of three generations of Santas and how they evolved sending presents to children to all the children during Christmas eve. With the help from the elves and military-like tactics, every delivery is like an espionage mission of breaking and drop-off. Christmas was a success until they realized a child had been missed.

The gazillion elves are trying their best to out beat the minions of Despicable Me. Sure they have talents but it's not that adorable. Who doesn't love an adorable babbling little yellow pumpkin-like humanoid?
