I have to admit thought that John Carter is quite admirable. It's based on a true human form altered with strength and agility of Mars gravity. That was somewhat believable. The natives of Mars or Barsoom does not look like those typical martians that olden movies portrays. However there where 2 types of aliens on Barsoom, the Tharks (Green humanoid with 4 hands) and the Red Martians (human like being with red tattoos).
I read the John Carter's comics from Marvel and wasn't too compelled by the story. But after watching the movie, the plot caught me a bit. The starting was very slow and boring but as the show progresses, it was quite good. Yup, only good. I still can't shake Star Wars out of my system.
Disney's effects are truly stunning. The aliens and warships are done nicely and the action sequence which wasn't much was okay. I still can't get Star Wars out of my head to this point. John Carter has elements of Star Wars to Dune and to some other sci-fi movies that I can't recalled the name.
